About the workshop

Welcome to Silver Printing

This 4hr evening workshop will teach you the basics behind printing your own silver gelatin black & white print by hand. The darkroom is a magical place where you can bring your photographs to life. We'll run through whats is needed to produce a beautiful print, chemical safety, operation of a photographic enlarger and end with free printing time.

What’s Included:

Everything you will need is provided in the course.

  • A packet of Ilford BW paper
  • Your own enlarging station
  • Printing chemicals
  • Printing tools

Course outline:

We’ll get stuck straight into printing your very own photographic enlargements! Starting with contact sheet printing then moving into making an 8x10” masterpiece. You’ll learn how to use test strips to get the best exposure time, use contrast filters and the effects of dodging and burning.

What to bring:

  • Comfortable clothes (warm) and closed in shoes
  • Black and white negatives, 35mm or 120

Running times:

Classes will start at 5pm and end at 9pm. Please make sure you have something to eat before you arrive as there will be no breaks and food is not permitted in the darkroom.
